"Accept each moment as if you had chosen it."

Plants, animals, humans encounter obstacles every day. I truly believe they are all necessary for our growth.

Life puts obstacles in your path each day. It likes to challenge you and observe your response to it.

You think you have control over your life, but you don’t. You experience a loss, illness, accident, relationship problems…outside obstacles that you haven’t contributed to. You only have control over what you think and feel, how you approach situation, what you say and do about it. How you show up in the world is under your control, the rest is out of your reach.

If you choose to accept each moment as it is, your attitude about the situation completely shifts.

Easier said than done, right!

Negative event is food for useless mind activity. It gets your full attention. Your mind starts commenting, refusing, and arguing while creating fear, anger, blame, and despair. Useless thinking, right! There is no value in focusing on negative experiences, still our brain is wired to focus on the negative.

Today I’m sharing with you a simple practice I use to rewire my brain to be more positive.

How to overcome obstacles with positive thinking

Life is about moving forward, moving into what is next.

Instead of focusing on your current obstacle, you focus upon your next step, moving to a better place.

To accept the moment as it is, you need to accept your current emotional state. Only then you can move to a better place. To move to a better place, you have to do something different with your attention, with your focus.

Where are you focusing your mind? Are you focusing on positive aspects of something or on negative? It’s important to become aware of how you feel, of your emotional journey. Awareness allows you to consciously change those feelings and be in control of future outcomes.

Looking for positive aspects of any obstacle will help you change your perspective of the situation and set the tone for your future experiences.

Practice positive thinking

The practice is very simple but it’s not easy to find those positive aspects when you feel overwhelmed by negative emotions.

Step 1 – You have to decide to find something positive in a certain situation. Once you find one, then it’s easier to find another and another.

Step 2 – Grab a piece of paper or your journal and write:  Positive aspects of … (subject). Write your list of positive aspects on that subject.

Every life experience has something positive and negative. All you need to do is to look for a small positive aspect of that situation. Let your attention flow in that direction.

Step 3 – Read what you have written. Are you feeling slightly better?

This practice helps you choose your object of attention consciously. By shifting your attention, you’ll be able to choose emotions you want to feel as you move through the journey.

I guarantee that this process will change the way you feel about any obstacle in your life.

Learn to get in touch with silence within yourself and know that everything in this life has a purpose. There are no mistakes, no coincidences; all events are blessings given to us to learn from. There is no need to go to India or anywhere else to find peace. You will find that deep place of silence right in your room, your garden or even your bathtub.”

Becoming more aware and being fully present in your body can help you thrive in the face of adversity. I’ve created a series of 5-Minute Meditation Practices to help you help you bring silence and stillness into your mind and body, and become more connected to yourself, your needs, your goals, and your dreams.
